The finalists: Kevin Cash, 36, has been a bullpen coach in Cleveland the past two seasons. Raul Ibanez, 42, played for the Angels and Royals last year. Don Wakamatsu, 51, was the Mariners’ manager in 2009-10 and was a bench coach for the Royals this season.
The biggest news from the announcement, though, was the absence of long-time bench coach Dave Martinez, a person most figured was the favorite to land the job. Matt Silverman, the team’s president of baseball operations, addresses Martinez in an overall statement.
The Rays ended the press release by pointing out there are only 92 days until pitchers and catchers report for spring training, which is nice.
