Rice was arrested on Feb. 15 after an altercation at the Revel Casino and Hotel that resulted in both Rice and his fiance, Janay Palmer, being charged with simple assault. The charge against Palmer, however, has been dropped. A video surfaced soon after the arrest, via TMZ.com, showing Rice dragging a seemingly unconscious Palmer out of a hotel elevator.

The more serious charge against Rice, a three-time Pro Bowl back and member of the Ravens' Super Bowl XLVII champions, was presented to the grand jury in Atlantic County, N.J., Thursday afternoon.

Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti had told the Baltimore Sun   on Monday that "Ray will be here" in the 2014 season, but called the incident "embarrassing for him.''

Commissioner Roger Goodell told reporters at the NFL meetings in Orlando Wednesday that the league is monitoring the case and has made no decision on disciplining him: "We will let the facts dictate that.' Rice is subject to the NFL's personal conduct policy and could be fined or suspended.
