The video starts by showing gameplay of the very first Ratchet & Clank game on the PlayStation 2 in a room with Ratchet & Clank posters on the wall. Anyone that remembers getting the original Ratchet & Clank PS2 game will recognize the posters as having legitimately come in the box, like the one that shows off all the weapons that Ratchet and Clank are able to collect in the game.

The Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart video then transitions to 2007, showing gameplay of the franchise’s debut on the PlayStation 3 as seen in Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. Not only do players get to see Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction gameplay, but the room that it’s taking place in evolves as well. The tube TV that was used to play the Ratchet & Clank PS2 game is upgraded to an HDTV, and the shelves are filled with more Ratchet & Clank merchandise.

The next transition takes Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction and goes to the franchise’s PS4 debut. While there were numerous Ratchet & Clank games released for the PS2 and PS3, the series didn’t have quite the same presence on the PS4. The only Ratchet & Clank game built specifically for the PS4 was the 2016 Ratchet & Clank re-imagining, which retold the story of the original game.

Finally, the video jumps from Ratchet & Clank on PS4 to Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on the PlayStation 5, and the room is upgraded to include even more Ratchet & Clank merchandise, with figures of various characters the duo have met on their adventures now adorning the walls. The TV in the center of the room shows some Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart gameplay that Sony has showcased in the past, but then zooms in to give fans a closer look, showing Ratchet, Clank, and new playable hero Rivet in action.

This video is a nice way for fans to remind themselves just how far the Ratchet & Clank series has come, and the thing is, it didn’t even touch on the many other games that have been released for the series over the years. Whether or not Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will be another quality addition to the franchise’s sizable legacy remains to be seen, but fans will find out when the game launches next week.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart launches June 11, exclusively for the PlayStation 5.
